The Big Dam Run started 6 years ago with Susan from Wagento insisting that we join a running race because ".. all you do is code, drink and eat Doritos ... " (I believe that is a direct quote.) That year we joined the Lovell Canyon Labor of Love run. It featured a full field of Sweettooth Candian runners all not ready for the desert heat and culminated with Bill Curtis passing out of the course. (He is ok and still living in Canada eh)
One more really exciting thing for me was I got a megafone so I could yell out instructions to everyone. It was clear that I so focused on getting the race started that I missed seeing Tom Robertshaw who was standing in front of me. Each year the race has grown and last year (2016) we were not able to find a suitable race to join so we started the Big Dam Run with the run going from Lake Mead to the Hoover Dam. This year we had the luxury of starting at the dam and running out and back on the trail. We also had a record crowd of nearly 130 participants. This was also the first year of prize winners with Talesh winning the first "Best Talesh Award". (14 dozen donuts) I think Talesh managed to finish 10 dozen before he gave some away. We also had the best costume (Anna), First for 5k and 10k. Of course, everyone got a finisher medal.
We did not count how many people did the 5k vs the 10k but it seemed like the majority went all the way to the 10k turnaround. I am not sure if anyone ran to the Lake Mead Visitor center.
The day was bright and sunny with perfect temps.
NOTE: The last 6 people who didn't get a finisher medal, please let me know and we will get them for you.
Thanks again to everyone on the Wagento team who helped on the run and all the participants who joined us this year. It was a very enjoyable time and remember, even if you don't run you can walk as far as you want. You can even walk to the dam and do a little sightseeing!
Congratulations on a great Magento Imagine 2017
