Meet Magento Germany 2017 - Hackathon and Conference

      May 29, 2017 | Posted in Conferences | By Brent W Peterson

Meet Magento Germany 2017 Conference and Hackathon in Leipzig Germany

This was my first time at Meet Magento DE and I had the pleasure of participating and speaking in the event. I also attended the Hackathon on the weekend prior to the start of event which was organized by Firegento. This was my first international hackathon and it proved to be everything and more than I expected.

To start Fabian Blechschmidt had made custom shirts for every participant. (Great touch thank you!) He and Claudia Teubner organized the Hackathon and the Magento Core Team showed up to help. (I confess that I was late because of a un-anticipated long run) but when I did finally arrive I was treated to a bevy of food and 60 developers organized into different tracks.

The Magento 2 Feature track involved Multi-Node inventory for Magento CE. This is an effort to include the community in building features for Magento community. They also had M1 related activities and PR's for issues in Magento.

The conference started on Monday with a #MageRun organized by Fabian and Sonja from Integer-net. We had a great showing and ran 5-10k. If you haven't signed up for a MageRun you really need to do one. It is a great way to meet new people and get away from the desk. Leipzig has 100's of kilometers trails that can lead you everywhere in the city. It is a great way to get around and a great way to sightsee. I spent nearly every day running the trails and rivers (and lakes). Such a beautiful city.

Thomas Goletz gave us an overview of the Meet Magento Association and laid out the ambitious plans for 50 conferences in the future.

      • 50 Conferences in 2017
      • 50 Countries
      • 42 host (Organizing)
      • 850 Speakers in 2016
      • 150-1500 per conference attendees

Meet Magento DE kicked off with Paul Boisvert telling us about Magento's roadmap. I can appreciate Paul's no-nonsense approach and transparent attitude to the futuere of Magento. Here are a few highlights of Paul's Presentation:

      • Community Engineering
      • B2B in Magento Enterprise 2.2
      • Magento Commerce Order Management (MCOM)
      • Magento Social

Mark Lavelle gave the Keynote for #MM17DE which indicated the importance of this event in the Eco-system. His key points were:

      • 34% rise in digital buyers for 2018
      • 66.9€ Total commerce for 2016
      • 12% growth for Online sales
      • 6% of global Magento market
      • 15 Magento 2 trained partners
      • 1500/month downloads of Magento

      Community Engineering

The community engineering team was present and hard at work. They participated in the Hackathon and contributed greatly to the event. Thank you!

      Meet Magento Association News

It was annouced that Brent Peterson will take on the role of Vice President for the LATAM region and he will help to organize events in Bolivia, Peru, Uruguay, Chile and Columbia. Other countries to follow!

This was a fantasticly organized event which was attended by more than 800 poeple. It is well worth the visit for the breakout speakers alone. The content offered by the community is extraordinary and offers a optimistic view on the state of Magento and what we will see in the future.
